Bruce J. Matson, Sr., 77 of Belle Vernon, passed away on February 22, 2019, in his home, after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 4, 1941, in Charleroi, the son of the late Bert Eugene and Jean Carson Matson. Bruce was a 1959 graduate of Charleroi High School. He was a longtime Shift Foreman at Mathies Mine and Maple Creek Mine. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Laidlaw, and then became owner/operator of ‘Kids World Ice Cream’, servicing many communities in the Mon Valley.
Bruce is survived by sons Bruce Matson, Jr., and wife Jeanette, and Douglas Matson, both of Belle Vernon, granddaughter Kaitlin Gorzelsky and husband Adam Gorzelsky, of Latrobe, grandson Nicholas Matson & fiance Paige Maiolini, of Belle Vernon, great grandson Landon Gorzelsky, great granddaughter Lorelei Gorzelsky, and dear sister Gloria Martin and husband James Martin, of Spokane, Washington. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. Mr. Matson’s family would like to express their sincere thank you and appreciation to Dr. Sudha Nayer, Dr. Rajesh Shah, Dr. Ashok Jain, and to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care for their care, assistance, and guidance while treating Bruce over the last several years.
