James A. Savarino, 93, of Belle Vernon, Washington Twp., died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 11:52 am at Mon Valley Hospital. Born March 24, 1923 in Monessen, he was the son of the late George and Angelina Afronti Savarino. A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 57 years, Mr. Savarino was a member of St. Sebastian R.C. Church, Belle Vernon and was a retired draftsman from Swift Industries along with his own founded company Presidential Homes. He was a both a founding member and board member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Monessen, served on the Greensburg Diocese for the Boy Scouts of America, belonged to Center on the Hill, the Golden Age Assembly and the Fayette City Travel Club. Jim also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, crossword puzzles, working on his computer and was an avid Steelers fan.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth 'Betty' Canigiani Savarino to whom he was married 64 years, six children George Savarino & wife Janine of Belle Vernon, Jimmy Savarino of Pittsburgh, Nancy Weinman &husband Tim of Greensburg, Thomas Savarino of Charleroi, Carolyn Farrier &husband Paul of Charleroi, Kathleen Ritzer & husband Brennan of Ruffs Dale; sister Mary Shaffer of North Belle Vernon; six grandchildren Nicole Weaver & husband Jesse, Ashley Weinman, Joshua Savarino, Zachary Ritzer, Alex Ritzer, Lee Ritzer and a great grandson David Weaver. He is preceded in death by three brothers Mario, Dominick, Joseph Savarino and four sisters Rose DeCarlo, Jennie Dalfonso, Julia Indorante and Josephine Seese.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. Prayers of Transfer will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick pastor as celebrant. Entombment will take place in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Jim Savarino Tuesday at 3 pm in the funeral home.
