John Gillo, 88, of Belle Vernon, Washington Township, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, at 6:32 p.m. at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Monongahela. Born Feb. 5, 1927, in Fayette City, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Girardi Gillo. Mr. Gillo was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, was a retired maintenance foreman at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army, was a life member of the Washington Township volunteer fire department and a former Washington Township supervisor and wage tax collector. He is survived by his wife, Norma Spanish Gillo to whom he was married 64 years; a son, John Gillo of Washington Township; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Ken Kretchman of Cary, N.C.; three grandchildren, Douglas Kretchman and wife, Lindsey, Lisa Kretchman and Rebecca Kretchman; and a sister, Anita Falcone of Lynchburg, Va.
Private family visitation was held Saturday at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Sebastian RC Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
